A Wedding Weekend to Remember: Timeline & Guest Experience

One of the most inspiring things about Becca and Michael’s multi-day wedding celebration in Big Sky, Montana, was how intentionally the entire weekend was planned around connection and hospitality. By renting out the full property at Lone Mountain Ranch’s Lone Mountain Lodge, they were able to create an immersive, all-in-one experience where guests could truly settle in and soak up the beauty of Big Sky.

The festivities kicked off with a welcome dinner in the cozy lodge—complete with a plated meal, live band, and a lively cocktail hour that set the tone for the weekend. It was the kind of night that made everyone feel instantly at home and excited for what was to come.

On the wedding day, the women got ready at a private residence nearby, which was the perfect spot for Becca’s large wedding party (junior bridesmaids included!) to spread out, relax, snack, and sip mimosas. Meanwhile, Michael and his crew enjoyed a laid-back morning in one of the cabins on-site, greeting guests and soaking in the mountain air.

Guests were transported to the breathtaking ceremony site by van and horse-drawn carriage—an experience that was both scenic and totally unforgettable. After saying “I do” with sweeping Montana views all around, guests mingled during cocktail hour before heading into a stunning tented reception. Even with a few light rain showers, the mood stayed high as everyone gathered for a cozy, family-style dinner and danced the night away under the canvas glow. When the evening wound down, guests simply hopped on a quick shuttle back to their cabins—no late-night Ubering or logistics needed.

Elevated Montana Vibes: Understated Luxury in the Mountains

Becca and Michael’s wedding was the perfect example of how to lean into the natural beauty of Montana without sacrificing style. The theme embraced understated luxury—think elevated rustic with a refined touch. With a soft, neutral color palette, lush floral installations, and thoughtful details throughout the weekend, the design let the landscape take center stage while still feeling completely bespoke.

Lone Mountain Ranch was an ideal backdrop for this kind of aesthetic. The sweeping mountain views, open skies, and blend of rugged charm with high-end hospitality made it easy to create a wedding that felt both grounded and elegant. The ceremony and reception locations in particular offered that “wow” factor without needing heavy decor—just a bit of floral magic and intentional styling to enhance what was already there.

Bringing a vision like this to life doesn’t happen by accident. Working with a visionary planner and designer like Penny Layne Creative was key to making the entire weekend feel seamless and elevated. From curating design elements that complemented the Montana landscape to orchestrating smooth guest experiences across multiple days and locations, their team made sure no detail was overlooked.

If you’re planning a Big Sky, Montana wedding and want to strike that balance between authenticity and polish, take a page from Becca and Michael’s playbook: focus on creating an experience that feels effortless, connected, and reflective of the environment. You don’t need over-the-top extravagance to create something unforgettable—just the right setting, a cohesive vision, and a planner who truly gets it.

Why They Chose Lone Mountain Ranch in Big Sky, Montana

As for the ceremony and reception space? Absolutely breathtaking. The Ridge rises about 500 feet from the ranch and offers sweeping, unobstructed views—truly one of the most unique outdoor venues in the region. Guests were transported to the ceremony site by van and horse-drawn wagon (yes, really), adding a sense of magic and adventure before they even arrived at the altar.
