MV Skansonia wedding inspiration coming right up. Evalynne and Per’s late-September Seattle wedding was the kind of day that makes you want to soak it all in — clear blue skies, golden light, and uninterrupted views of Lake Union from start to finish. Both the ceremony and reception took place aboard the MV Skansonia on North Lake Union, creating an effortlessly cool Seattle boat wedding that felt elevated without ever feeling stiff. The vision was timeless and fun — think Parent Trap–level charm with a relaxed, cocktail-party energy — and every detail delivered on that balance. If you’re dreaming of a Seattle wedding that feels upscale yet unfussy, stylish but genuinely joyful, this celebration is a beautiful example of how to pull it off.
Evalynne and Per planned their MV Skansonia wedding with intention from the very beginning, and their timeline reflected exactly how they wanted the day to feel: relaxed, personal, and centered on being present with the people they love.

Both Evalynne and Per chose to get ready off site, which is something many couples opt for when planning a Seattle boat wedding on the MV Skansonia. While the venue does have lovely separate quarters for getting dressed and final touches, getting ready elsewhere allows for more space and a calmer start to the day.
Evalynne got ready at an Airbnb in Ballard, while Per got ready at their home in Queen Anne. They arrived at the MV Skansonia at staggered times so they wouldn’t see each other before the first look. Evalynne arrived with hair and makeup already finished, then got dressed and put on her jewelry on board. Per arrived mostly dressed and finished things up at the venue by putting on his bow tie and shoes.
Neither of them had a formal wedding party, but close friends were present while they got ready — offering support, popping champagne, and toasting them along the way. That choice set the tone for the entire day: celebratory without feeling structured. Even without formal wedding party photos, they still made space for fun, natural photos with friends, which added to the lived-in, joyful feel of the day.

Evalynne and Per decided to do a private first look before the ceremony, which gave them a quiet moment together before guests arrived. The MV Skansonia offers several beautiful spots for a first look, and to keep things truly private, we chose the second-floor balcony. It still offered soft views of Lake Union while feeling tucked away from the rest of the boat — a perfect balance of scenery and intimacy.

One of the biggest advantages of an MV Skansonia wedding is flexibility. Depending on guest count and weather, there are a few different ceremony locations on the boat. Evalynne and Per chose my personal favorite: the deck at the bow of the boat, timed just before golden hour.
They worked with their planner and florist to design a ceremony setup that felt elevated but unfussy, complementing the natural beauty of the Seattle skyline rather than competing with it. A close friend officiated the ceremony, weaving in personal stories and humor that made the moment feel deeply intentional and unmistakably theirs.

Because portrait time was somewhat limited, we chose to stay entirely on the boat rather than heading into the city. This worked beautifully, especially since the boat itself was such a central part of their story. The result was a set of portraits that felt unforced, stylish, and true to the day.

They loved posing with other boats drifting by in the background, and we even leaned into the wind — letting Evalynne’s scarf catch the air for a few impromptu, dramatic bridal portraits that felt editorial without being overly posed. It was a perfect example of how a Seattle wedding can feel both polished and relaxed when you let the setting do some of the work.

The theme of Evalynne and Per’s MV Skansonia wedding was best described as Parent Trap–inspired — relaxed, romantic, and just a little bit playful — with an elevated cocktail-party energy woven throughout the night. Rather than centering the day around a tightly structured list of wedding traditions, they wanted it to feel like one unforgettable evening on the water with all their favorite people. Effortless, stylish, and fun were the priorities, and every design choice supported that vision.

Leaning into the boat-party setting, they embraced a slightly kitschy color palette with red and pink stationery, menus, and florals by Fleurish that felt bold without tipping into novelty. Those pops of color brought warmth and personality to the space and paired beautifully with the classic lines of the boat and the surrounding Lake Union views. It was a great reminder that a Seattle boat wedding can feel timeless and playful at the same time.
Their attire fit the theme perfectly and elevated the entire look of the day. Evalynne wore a Sarah Seven gown from The Dress Theory Seattle — a fitted silhouette with a sweetheart neckline and playful oversized pearl accents scattered throughout the dress. It felt modern and fashion-forward while still nodding to a classic, timeless bridal look. Per complemented her effortlessly in a black suit and bow tie from J.Hilburn, finished with Louboutin dress shoes that added just the right amount of polish and personality. Together, their looks struck that ideal balance of formal and fun, perfectly matching the tone of the celebration.
The Landmark Event Co team — who own and operate the MV Skansonia — played a huge role in keeping the day feeling seamless. Their coordination, guest flow, specialty cocktails, and efficient, delicious catering made the entire evening feel easy and unforced, allowing everyone to stay present and enjoy the celebration without distraction.
Dessert was another moment where the theme really shined. The cakes from Maddy’s Bakeshop featured fun, funky red and pink florals across multiple small cakes, adding to the nostalgic, slightly whimsical vibe while still feeling thoughtfully styled and intentional.

That balance of relaxed yet elevated made the experience especially memorable for guests. Instead of feeling like they were watching a series of events unfold, they were truly part of the night — mingling, celebrating, and connecting — while the heartfelt ceremony, personal speeches, and polished design elements kept everything feeling meaningful and special.

For Evalynne and Per, choosing the MV Skansonia as their Seattle wedding venue was deeply personal — and absolutely perfect for their vision. Nestled on North Lake Union, the Skansonia is a historic wooden ferry transformed into one of Seattle’s most iconic waterfront event spaces, blending vintage nautical charm with panoramic skyline views that make every moment feel special.

They chose this location because boats are a huge part of their life — weekends are often spent boat camping, and it was where Per popped the question — so a Seattle boat wedding on Lake Union just felt right for them. Even with lots of other boats and water activity around, the party still felt delightfully private and intimate, like its own little world on the water.
The Skansonia itself offers rich character with polished wood floors, a hand-carved center bar, multiple indoor and outdoor spaces, and that postcard view of the Seattle skyline that almost no other venue can match. Its flexible layout accommodates ceremonies on deck at the bow, cocktail hours under the open sky, and dinner and dancing inside — all without feeling like you’re just in another banquet hall.

A practical planning note for couples considering this venue: parking around the Skansonia is limited. While the venue does offer a private lot with a small number of spots and there are additional nearby street parking options, most events benefit from encouraging carpooling, ride sharing, or even arranging transportation from a nearby hotel — especially if you have a larger guest list.
All of this wrapped up with the on-site team from Landmark Event Co., whose coordination and support throughout the night kept everything flowing beautifully, made the Skansonia not just a backdrop but a defining part of their wedding story.
